About Event
We live in an age where everyone is connected with everyone else. There is a shift in the way we conduct our professional and personal lives, with an increasing dependency on IT and ITeS for carrying out professional commitments and also our daily chores. As individuals, we now exist not only in our physical form, but also in a digital form – for online transactions – with multiple identifying credentials like PAN, Bank Account No. Driver’s License and soon in GoI’s UID No. which will be ubiquitous. All of these have come to define the individual now.
As much as the physical form of an individual is prone to threat, so is this digital form. The need to safeguard the privacy of an individual is not limited to the physical dimensions but transcends into the cyberspace. Hence, there is a need to safeguard this digital identity by understanding the threats and with preparedness to handle these.
Data privacy is our shared responsibility. The governments and regulators are working towards formulating a sound legal regime around the world, but we must do our part by being aware, and also increase the awareness of others, on data privacy.
As you are aware, January 28 is annually celebrated as Data Privacy Day. On this day and in surrounding weeks, many countries around the world will celebrate Data Privacy Day. In 2011, CEO, DSCI sent out a Privacy Day message to all the DSCI members exhorting them celebrate this day with meetings and discussion. Various Chapters held meetings and seminars on this day to discuss the data protections issues and plan out agenda for the coming year. To take the message to an even greater number of people, DSCI designed and circulated a Data Privacy Day desktop theme to its Chapter and corporate members and other stakeholders. The Desktop theme reached about 2.4 lacs desktops, thereby establishing an increased awareness on the data privacy need.
This year also, DSCI invites its members to participate in Data Privacy Day by holding discussions and training sessions for employees, and also focus on educating students and other stakeholders. With January 28, 2012 being a Saturday, DSCI will celebrate Data Privacy Day with meeting in Delhi on February 2, 2012.
We invite all our members to plan their celebrations around that week.
