Wider strategy needed to ensure cyber security

Press release of NASSCOM-DSCI Annual Information Security Summit 2011

Data Security Council of India organized 6th NASSCOM – DSCI Annual Information Security Summit at the Hotel Grand on December 6-7, 2011. The Summit is one of biggest annual events on data security and witnesses large participation from government, industry, solution providers and user community, from India and abroad. This year, Ms. Latha Reddy, Deputy National Security Advisor, Government of India inaugurated the Summit and Mr. Rajendra Pawar, Chairman, NASSCOM provided the theme address.

The 2-day Annual Information Security Summit addressed the current security challenges against the backdrop of the recent high profile attacks. The Summit is a pioneering platform for establishing the significance of security within national and organizational ecosystem where the providers of solutions, users of solutions, and the thought leaders and regulators come together to contribute to the future of data security.

In her inaugural address, Ms. Latha Reddy congratulated NASSCOM and DSCI for the significant contribution in cyber security and data protection and said, “India remains a preferred global supplier of IT services and more and more companies are setting up their research & development centers here. Joint actions, supported by technology oriented growth policies with high focus on data protection will help sustain this momentum.

Mr. Rajendra Pawar called for a coherent national policy as networks become pervasive and the traditional approach may not work anymore. He emphasized on coordinated efforts towards formulating mechanism, framework, role and responsibility to help establish an understanding and increased awareness on data protection.

The Summit facilitated the winner of the India Cyber Cop of the Year. Shri. Deepak Thakur, Dy.S.P, State Cyber Police, Madhya Pradesh was awarded with the India Cyber Cop of the year Award.

DSCI instituted the DSCI Excellence Awards to annually honour organizations and individuals who have shown high level of preparedness and have excelled in the area of information security.

Supported by over 40 organizations, the Delhi Summit 2011 featured leading authorities on Cyber Security & National Security, Mobility & Extended Organization, Data Centric Security, Cloud Computing, and Business Perspective of Security, as they engaged in panel discussions and Round Table Conferences.
