Disasters, both natural and man-made, are unpredictable as to time, location, nature and severity. Every city is susceptible to disasters. When they occur, a city should be ready to offer leadership, help and information. Each city needs to place high priority on emergency planning so that it can respond efficiently, effectively and economically to any disaster situation. Government of India has taken a series of steps that includes establishing “National Disaster management Authority (NDMA)” under the leadership of the Prime minister of India.
The principal function of the Emergency Services is to ensure the safety of individuals. The discipline deals with a proactive preparation for avoiding any risks that may occur because of either Man-made or Natural calamities. Emergency management is a continuous process by which all individuals, groups, and communities manage hazards in an effort to avoid or reduce the impact of any disaster. It assigns broad responsibilities to the local government agencies and support organizations for disaster mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery.
This Section is created to serve as a guide and covers some of the useful links and contacts which can be used in case of any emergency or contingency.
The primary aim of creating this section on the website is to ensure a consolidation of key links and information that is readily available at the time of an emergency.
DSCI has initiated this section currently for Delhi region, and will expand the same to other cities of the country. We also welcome volunteers for assisting us in building a similar database for the other parts of the country.
Though we have taken utmost care in consolidating the information and have provided useful links, but we disclaim the content for accuracy, as the same has been taken from publically available websites.
DSCI welcomes comments and feedback on this section in terms of coverage and accuracy of any of the sub-section of Emergency Services. Feel free to contact us at info@dsci.in.
