About Lt Gen R S Panwar

Lt Gen (Dr) R S Panwar, a Distinguished Alumnus Awardee of IIT Bombay, has four decades of military experience in technology based warfare. His last appointment while in active service was Commandant of Military College of Telecommunication Engineering, Mhow, which carries out training of officers and soldiers in the fields of ICT, electronic warfare and cyber operations. The officer holds M Tech and Ph D Degrees in Computer Science and Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay as well as a degree in Master of Management Studies from Osmania University, Hyderabad. He is a graduate of the prestigious National Defence College, and has attended a special one semester Cryptology Course at the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. Lt Gen Panwar has commanded a wide range of units and formations, and has provided cyberspace operations and electronic warfare support for conventional as well as counter-insurgency operations in the entire Northern Theatre. As Commandant MCTE, he provided significant impetus to conceptual studies and training in network centric warfare as well as information operations, with special focus on cyber warfare, and also took initial steps to build up expertise in the field of AI/ robotics. He is a recipient of several awards by the President for rendering distinguished services to the Nation, and has also been awarded by the Department for Defence Production for carrying out critical R&D work in the area of mobile defence networks.
