DSCI (NASSCOM) Hyderabad Chapter celebrated Data Privacy Day by organizing a Privacy focused meeting with its members. The objective of the day is to sensitize individuals and disseminate privacy practices and principles. The day marks the opportunity to further the long-standing goal of robust use and transfer of data in a fashion that is responsible and protected. As part of Privacy awareness and discussions, the key topics set for the day’s agenda were – ‘Privacy in changing world’,Digital ‘Transformation and privacy’ followed by a panel discussion spanning over ‘Technology and privacy’. The event was hosted by Infosys Limited, Hyderabad Office.

The event started with Infosys’ Executive Vice President, Mr. Narsimha Rao Manepalli lighting the lamp with the delegates and a Bharat Natyam dance to set the tone. Mr. Manepalli, in his inaugural speech shared his views on the current and future privacy landscape from sectoral and business dimension point of view and how privacy is an integral part of business and not an add-on expectation. This was followed by a welcome address by Mr. Leela Krishna, DSCI Hyderabad Anchor to mark the commencement of session discussions.

Keynote speaker, Mr. Ricky Rakesh Jha provided his perspectives from the point of past, current and future privacy needs and expectations in society and the digital world. He also shared insights on the key paradigm shift in privacy expectations at all corners and the growing need for privacy professionals to meet those requirements by implementing them in corporates and enterprises.

Dr. Sriram Birudavolu, CEO, Centre of Excellence, Telangana, a joint venture between Telangana Govt. and DSCI, provided his viewpoint on personal data classification and its need to be protected by corporates and enterprises.  He elaborated the need and importance of developing solutions through startups and initiatives to cater the upcoming need of privacy implementation, not only in India but around the globe. He emphasized that corporates should establish mini R&D labs to foster innovation and deliver required solution in this field.

The last session included a panel discussion comprising of Mr. Srinivas Poosarla, Head of Data Privacy at Infosys; Mr. Abhishek Pandey, DPO (AMEA and India) at Novartis; and Mr. Damodar E, IGP, Telangana. The session was moderated by Mr. Anand Rao from DSCI Hyderabad Chapter. The diverse group of panelist brought forward their perspectives and suggestions on the issues in the field of health care, corporates playing the role of controller and processor, and law and legal perspectives. The questions linking to data retention policies and tools, role of law enforcement in field of surveillance and investigation, were very well articulated with examples by the panel members. The need for accountability of the privacy violations was explained through illustrations and case laws.

This marked the end of the event with closing remarks from Mr. Ramakant Mohapatra, Group manager at Data privacy Office of Infosys. The meet was welcomed and received well by all the participants and everyone joined hands to celebrate Data Privacy Day!
