Best Practices for Data Protection & Launch of Ahmedabad E-Security Forum

Data protection has emerged as a major corporate and government concern worldwide. The focus is on secure handling of data so as to ensure privacy of customer data and security of corporate data. Different countries have enacted laws to deal with data protection and data privacy. In view of the multiplicity of privacy legislations worldwide, the IT/BPO companies in India are faced with a major challenge of demonstrating compliance with laws of countries where the data originates. The industry, led by NASSCOM, decided to take the route of self regulation – it established Data Security Council of India (DSCI) as a section 25, not-for-profit, self-regulatory organization. DSCI’s mission is to promote security and privacy best practices among the service providers to assure our global clients that India is, and will remain a destination of choice for global sourcing.

DSCI has developed its Best Practices Framework based on ISO 27001 Security Standards and OECD Privacy Principles that will enable a service provider in India to be not only in compliance with regulatory requirements of clients’ countries, but also make them secure.

DSCI is organizing a seminar on “Best Practices for Data Protection” on March 17, 2010 in Ahmedabad. The program will be organised under the Cyber Security Awareness Project funded by Department of Information Technology (DIT), Ministry of Communications & Information Technology, Govt. of India that is being implemented by DSCI. An E-Security Forum/DSCI Ahmedabad Chapter will also be launched during the event with an aim of fostering a community of Information Security professionals in Ahmedabad.
