Cyber Cop Awards
About the Award
The issue of Cyber Crimes is emerging as a big challenge for Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) around the world and, India is no exception. With its growing economy, huge IT industry, increasing rollout of e-Governance and online applications and, burgeoning tech-savvy generation of citizens – all are very attractive for organized cyber criminals to target India and its citizens. Some of the LEAs in India have taken proactive steps to build capacities to address the investigation needs of cyber crime. This focus needs to be further sustained and, with a view to help and bring in the expertise from the IT industry to the LEAs, DSCI and NASSCOM have been working closely with them especially through the Cyber Labs program for Capacity Building, under which Cyber Labs have been established in Mumbai, Thane, Pune, and Bangalore. DSCI has expanded this program further by creating Cyber Labs in Chennai, Hyderabad, Madhuban (Haryana) and recently in Kolkata with the help of Department of Information Technology. More than 9000 law enforcers have been trained in cyber crime investigations and cyber forensics. DSCI has also developed a ‘Cyber Crime Investigation Manual’ to help and guide the police officers in cyber crime investigations using cyber forensic tools and standard operating procedures.
In order to encourage the police officers who have put in extra efforts to learn cyber forensics to solve cyber crimes, DSCI is pleased to institute an annual award called ‘India Cyber Cop Award’, which will recognize, reward and honour a police officer who has done the most outstanding investigation in solving a cyber crime. The Mumbai Police and NASSCOM had earlier instituted this award in year 2005, which was presented to the winner during the Cyber Safety Week 2005. This award will form a distinct category in the DSCI Excellence Awards from next year in addition to the existing categories – IT Services, BPO, Banking, Telecom, Individual and Special category. This year’s award will be presented to the winner in the NASSCOM-DSCI Annual Information Security Summit to be held on 6-7 Dec’11 in New Delhi. The selection of the winner will be facilitated through a rigorous evaluation process helped by an eminent jury, and the process support will be provided by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).
