With a bold vision to build a cyber-resilient future, the Data Security Council of India (DSCI), in partnership with the British High Commission, New Delhi commenced a new edition of Cyber for YOUth in August 2024, aiming to empower middle school students with essential cyber safety skills and instil digital responsibility from an early age.
The program was rolled out in the state of Madhya Pradesh across 15 government schools in Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, and Chhatarpur. The program sensitized over 4,100 beneficiaries—including students and teachers through immersive three-day sessions conducted entirely in Hindi.
Students explored real-world topics such as cyberbullying, privacy settings, online gaming risks, phishing, password security, and social engineering.
The sessions included live demonstrations, videos, quizzes, and poster-making activities to reinforce learning, and pre- and post-assessments showed significant improvement in student understanding, with some schools reporting knowledge gains of up to 88%. Teachers across participating schools praised the initiative for its relevance and engaging format, with many highlighting that educators along with students are getting empowered through practical insights to integrate cybersecurity awareness into daily learning.
As one of the school principals noted, the sessions brought invaluable knowledge not only to students but also to educators. The overwhelming engagement, improvement in digital literacy through pre- and post-assessments, and the enthusiastic participation of schools affirmed Cyber for YOUth as a benchmark initiative—setting the foundation for a safer, more informed digital generation across India
