Group Coordinator (Cyber Security) and Scientist ‘G’ in Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology

Mrs. Savita Utreja is Group Coordinator (Cyber Security) and Scientist ‘G’ in Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. She has done her B.E. in Electronics & Communications and M.Tech in Computer Science & Engineering. She possesses 36 years of working experience including experience with Industry as well as Government in different areas of Information Technology including networking and cyber security. At present, her work area is focussed on cyber security initiatives for the country which includes Strategic, Operational, R&D, capacity building, cyber security industry promotion, cyber forensics initiatives. Capacity building initiatives include Cyber Surakshit Bharat programme, Training for Government officials, notification of Forensic Labs in country under 79 A of IT Act. To build culture of innovation and foster entrepreneurship spirit by building key cybersecurity capabilities in the country, the first of its kind Cyber Security Grand Challenge was conducted under her guidance.

Prior to current portfolio in MeitY, she had worked with CERT-In for about 11 years in the area of Cyber Security Assurance. She was heading Cyber Security Assurance & compliance activities at CERT-In. These activities were aimed at enabling key organisations in Government as well as private sector for improving their cyber security posture and ensuring the safety and security of cyber space in the country. She was the key person to bring the concept of conducting Cyber Security Exercises/ drills to enable the entities to assess and improve their cyber security posture. Prior to CERT-In, she has worked on various National Prestigious Projects such as Media Lab Asia, Free Open-Source Software initiative, Country Gateway etc under Ministry of Electronics & IT. She has contributed significantly in setting up of country wide VSAT and Terrestrial networks during her tenure with ERNET India.
