Assessing India’s Cybersecurity Regulations in a Dynamic Environment

The report, supported by SAP, offers a comprehensive exploration of India’s cybersecurity landscape and its applicability on Enterprises and Enterprise Service Providers (ESPs) like the Cloud Service Providers. This report is divided into two distinct parts. Part 1 focuses on mapping and providing guidance on existing cybersecurity regulations. It compiles national, sectoral, institutional, and state-level frameworks, helping enterprises and ESPs align their operations with legal mandates. The report offers strategic guidance to aid enterprises and ESPs for optimizing operations while ensuring compliance. It provides for some minimum baseline security practices such as network segmentation, Identity and Access Management (IAM), and adherence to international cybersecurity and cloud security standards which may be adopted by ESPs to build trust, maintain resilience, and enhance their service offerings.

Part 2 provides an in-depth analysis of the regulatory impact of existing cyber security regulations on enterprises and ESPs and also the intended objectives of cyber security. It evaluates how cybersecurity mandates influence operational agility, innovation, and resilience while identifying challenges posed by overlapping and inconsistent regulatory requirements. Drawing inspiration from global best practices, the report outlines actionable recommendations, calling for harmonization of cybersecurity regulations to eliminate redundancies and simplify compliance.

This report is, therefore, a vital resource for policymakers, enterprises, and solution providers. It emphasizes the need to balance regulation with operational agility, fostering a resilient, secure, and innovative digital future for India.
